The Tradition of Revitalization

Now that was funny!! Did you see the Dale Neseman cartoon from the Tribune opinions page on Dec. 31 2006?

The cartoon has father time (2006) passing a scroll on to Baby New Year 2007. Father Time says; "It's a tradition, son. This gift gets passed on year after year." The scroll he is passing on is titled " New Albany Revitalization." Yeah Baby, that's a gut buster. Great job Dale!!

Sad thing is it would be even more funny if it wasn't so disgustingly true. To much work for the current town council to tackle. This is a sure vote getter though. The common lines for a New Albany council person; Re-elect me I voted and help pass a revitalization project. Re-elect me I voted to save the city a bundle of money by voting not to fund a revitalization project. Sound familiar??

One more sad point to make. How do these pathetic people keep getting re-elected? By claiming those opposing them are a political party and not a particular individual. So make your trip to the poles an easy and fast one. Just check one box and your done. Vote on the party line. Voters are actually voting FOR their neighbors they don't even like or know, by voting for or against national politicians that won't directly effect their lives in the short term. That's why I don't like party affiliation at this level in local politics. If voters actually voted for people they know we wouldn't be in this mess.

How different would any city be if those elected to these lower level local positions would actually care about what is good and right for the city instead of their buddy Bob,cousin Bill, aunt Mary and their political party. If the people of New Albany would vote for the people they know and see instead of a national party, we might actually be able to get something done for the good of the people. At the least get something STARTED/FUNDED in this town.
